Through the mountains of Colorado

Trip odometer: 3920

Miles today: 324
We woke up and could finally see what the campground we’d stayed at was like. It was a huge campground next to a large reservoir where the primary activity seems to be fishing. There were lots of boats on the water. After herding everyone into the car with the much repeated and disliked, “Get up, help, you can sleep in the car later” we were off. We wound through river canyons and mountain passes.

We found a park along the Red Rock River Road to have lunch at.  It was nice to stretch our legs before getting back in the car.

We stopped to visit Telleride.  They were having a Bluegrass Festival so the town was crazy busy but we found a parking space and walked in to town. We found an ice cream shop to enjoy and walked the main business street.

there's a beautiful waterfall at the end of town
The ice cream was homemade and yummy.  Apparently Rachel Ray approves if the magazine framed on the wall is to be believed.  I got peach with chunks of fresh peaches in it.

Miriam got tired on the way back to the car so Boma gave her a lift

Isaac used some of his spending money to buy this hoodie.  He'd been wanting one for months and wouldn't you know, they were 50% off in the 90 degree heat of Telluride.  Too bad he can't tell people he bought it while he was skiing there!

Then, back on the road for one more mountain pass before heading down to Cortez near Mesa Verde National Park. With so many people, spending the night at a KOA is a bit pricey but it was in the 90’s, we were cooked, and the promise of a refreshing dip in the pool was just too tempting. That, and wi-fi so I could update everyone on our happenings. (I’ll be taking up a collection when I get home!) We got here around 4:30, camp was set up and dinner done by 6:00 and we had the rest of the evening to relax. For the 1st time this trip, I was able to sit, relax, and read a book. It’s nice to have a helper!
